In September 2009, I set out to post a daily photograph here for a year and as of last week, I did it. My motivation was to become a better photographer and editor by practicing everyday.
When I began, I was shooting with a Nikon D40X using the kit lens and a 50mm and editing with Photoshop. In March I upgraded to a Nikon D700 (hello full-frame sensor!) and now I edit using Lightroom and Photoshop.
I take my camera with me everywhere I go. My purse is now a camera bag. Sometimes, despite its weight and bulk, I forget that it’s even there and that’s not a good thing. There are days when shooting seems like a chore, but it forces me to reexamine my surroundings and find something interesting about them. There are days when I can’t get inspired and I have to take a walk around the block which always ends up being a great way to take a break.
Some days I get really discouraged for having less-than-stellar material to work with. But I just have to remember that it’s not necessary that every photo be perfect; it is necessary to keep moving forward.
I want to thank my husband, Ben, for all of his support and his patience, and for his cooperation in being my most frequent subject. And thanks to Matt Haughey, Jon and Heather Armstrong, Matt Wright, Noe Montes, Amit Gupta and Chris Glass for inspiration and solid advice. Thanks to my mom for signing up for a Tumblr account just so she could click the heart button. And thanks to you for following me.
There are many more photos to be taken as I have much more room for growth. I plan on continuing this project indefinitely. Here are a few of my favorites from early in the project:
