The New York Times discovers breakfast tacos:

When I was still in school at UT I literally lived around the corner, just a few steps away from the Tamale House. Every weekend I would stumble over there to get the cure for my hangover: a potato, egg and cheese taco. Or two. These days I live within spitting distance of two Torchy’s Tacos locations. Their migas taco has everything you could ask for: eggs, pico, avocado.

When I lived in San Francisco, breakfast tacos (really tacos in general - it’s a burrito town if ever one existed) were one of the things I was truly homesick for. Luckily for past me, they were easy enough to replicate in the comfort of my own kitchen.

Yes, the rumors are true. I made two musical devices last Sunday. This is the more simple PicoPaso, a stepped tone noise synth. The good news is that I can use it in conjunction with the Space Baby once I get the proper cables and a nine volt.

This is the result of the workshop I went to last weekend. It was pretty rude of me to tell you about it without showing you the result. The emails have been pouring in this week, demanding that I show the world what I created. Well, I heard you loud and clear, so here is the beat-synced modulated digital delay I made called Space Baby. Each colorful piece of metal and plastic had to be attached to the board using my not-small fingers. It was tough, but I “soldered” through.*

Last night, Ben and I went to Handmade Music, hosted by Dr. Bleep.* I knew I was in for several hours of soldering but I didn’t know I’d be running into Reid Jacobson, my pal from last year’s MaxFunCon. We spent 6 hours making tiny light-sensitive synthesizers, drinking beer, and reminiscing. It was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday night.

* If you’re attending SXSW, take note of the robot logos of the festival. They are based on the adorable synths produced by Bleep Labs.

It’s snowing here as I type this. I’m sorry to those of you who have been trapped in your homes by a brutally cold winter, but please allow me my snow joy. It rarely snows here in Austin. When it does snow, it doesn’t stick, it falls and melts away. But today it’s sticking! And more is falling! Two days ago it was so hot outside that I wore a tank top and shorts and puttered in the garden all day. “Winter is over,” I thought. Well not so fast, me!

Anyways, please enjoy the littlest snowman.
