Just as we got out of our car at Barton Springs, an ice cream truck pulled up behind us and the nice lady inside asked if we wanted some free popsicles. It was the hottest time of day and we were experiencing a Summertime Miracle.

Ben, post hair cut, pre beard trim. On a related note, I’m considering opening an artisanal beard-trimming shop. Let me know if you’re interested in investing.

The sun just won’t quit. The high for the next few days is supposed to be 104°F, then down to 100°F. I’ll cope by going to see some movies and swimming in the cold springs.

You get a glitter ghost avatar of yourself in the Michael Jackson Experience. Pretty fun.

Yesterday evening just before sunset it started to rain. Big fat raindrops fell for about five minutes while I was outside watering my garden. This is notable because Austin is in the midst of a drought.
Because of the rain and the sunset, the air was turning a strange pink color, so I though I’d go on a walk to shoot it. But when I came out of my front door I saw the biggest cloud. It’s size and shape were strange, but so was the way it was moving - slowly towards us and blooming, as though it may have been caused by a fire or, less-likely, an alien spaceship. I could see lightening in the cloud but I heard no thunder. There were no other clouds in the sky.
Turns out it was a cumulonimbus incus or an “anvil cloud” and it brought hail to some parts of Central Texas. Lucky for us, it didn’t spawn a tornado, as those kinds of clouds sometimes do.

Six years ago Ben took me out on our first date. We’ve been essentially inseparable since then. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

My brother-in-law, Alex, moved into a new place with a gravel-filled backyard. Our new ritual is going over to his house after work to do some lawn bowling and drink beer. It’s a great way to unwind. Alex usually wins.
