The Friday dress* is back for one last Friday. I’m getting a little tired of this particular dress and this project. The two panels of fabric sewn together create a seam at the waist that slips below my belt every time I wear it. I’m constantly tugging at it throughout the day. It was only a little annoying at first but now I just feel self-conscious when I wear it. It’s been nice having a Friday uniform, but I think it’s time for a change.
My belt is a bright pink and white scarf that was my grandmother’s and I’m wearing some pink loafers from Steve Madden, purchased many years ago at the Famous Footwear where I worked in high school.
If you click the image, you can see the seam slippage and the new design I installed today. It’s the High Res theme by JSTN. I’ve been meaning to redesign to accomodate larger images for months and I finally did it today.
Sorry for the bitchface, but I guess that’s what I look like when I stare at the sun.
*On Fridays I wore this dress, styled it differently each time and shared it here.

COFFEE BREAKS ARE SO MUCH FUN!!!
It’s Friday everyone, so I’m wearing that dress* again. I’m also wearing a Wrangler Painted Desert shirt, square hoop earrings, my red watch and Feiyue’s. I’ve noticed these shoes popping up in brick and mortar stores for >$30, but you can get them on the internet for $15.

Here I am on my lunch break, wearing my Friday dress* and just relaxing and enjoying my beautiful backyard. The grass is lush and so comfortable to sit on. Psyche!
This week I’m sporting Heidi braids, an oversized fluorescent yellow tank (purchased at Marshall’s and normally worn over my swimsuit), a gold and coral necklace, and sandals from Target. No belt this week, which makes for a baggier silhouette but a happier Katie.

It’s Friday so I’m wearing that dress* again. The reflective surface comes courtesy of the mysterious new CHICKEN food truck that just moved in a few days ago. (I’ve never seen it open and serving food, but there’s a 20-foot long neon sign that says CHICKEN atop the airstream.)
Anyways, today I’m wearing my dress backwards, à la Kriss Kross. The thing around my neck is a cotton scarf (from H&M) that I tied into many knots until it became a necklace. My leather bow belt is by Belgo Lux, I got it on sale at Nordstrom last year. The oxfords are Corso Como, I got them on sale on the internet. For the record, it was 99°F outside when I took this.

Today I wore my Friday dress* with a patent leather belt of unknown origin, black sandals from Dolce Vita, bright pink earrings, also of unknown origin and a braided bun up top. I was a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to make the dress look much different than last week. But it’s so hot here that adding layers wasn’t appealing to me. Real talk: even the belt is making the two inch ring around my waist sweaty. Perhaps next week I’ll wear it backwards.

While I was at the Gap the other night, I found a dress to replace the LBD. It cost $8. This frock is a cotton-tencel blend, lighter than the wool blend of its predecessor. It’s almost the same in its design, buttons on the top half, pockets in the skirt. The plan is to style it differently each Friday and share the result here.
The red belt was my Grandmother’s, my necklace is from Old Navy and the slip is Anthropologie.

Another Friday, another chance to fash-up this black dress.
(By the way, today’s high was 86°F and I don’t know how many more Fridays I can wear this wool-blend dress comfortably. So this feature is officially on notice.)
I’m on day eight of SXSW and I knew I’d be outdoors for most of today so I wore a straw hat from BCBG, pigtail braids, a multicolored açai berry necklace from Brazil, my red G-shock watch, a giant navy purse by Kimodo with an Ona camera bag insert, and my black Havaiana flip-flops. You can’t see it in this shot but I’m also wearing a lot of SPF 50 sunscreen.
Me and this dress got to listen to some great music today by the likes of Shilpa Ray & Her Fancy Hookers, Das Racist, and The Dodos.

Today I spoke at SXSW (thanks to everyone who came and shared and listened!) so I had that in mind when I got dressed this morning. I wore a thrifted wool skirt over my black dress. The “gold”necklace is from Old Navy and the shoes are Steve Madden. Boom.

Black dress, week two. Here I paired it with a shirt from Land’s End and some leggings from Ross. Eventually I put on my red watch that I wear daily. You can see the outline of my iPhone in my pocket. I like to listen to podcasts while I’m getting ready in the mornings and I’ll just blast it from my phone’s speakers ‘cause I don’t give a fuuuck.

I’m starting a new thing here where every Friday I will wear this dress, accessorize it differently and share it here with you. Now that I no longer work out of the house I have to get dressed in grown-up clothes every day. So I’ve been having fun figuring out what to wear.
The dress can be worn with the buttons in the front or back and it has POCKETS! The jean jacket is Levi’s and before today I hadn’t worn it in years. The watch is G-shock, the earrings are H&M, the grey slip is Anthropologie, the tights are Hue and the shoes are FS/NY and I successfully spray painted them recently.
