I am really happy to announce the launch of Helsinki Design Lab, a site XOXCO had the pleasure of partnering with Bryan Boyer of SITRA to build. HDL’s mission, in part:
We assist decision-makers to view challenges from a big-picture perspective, and provide guidance toward more complete solutions that consider all aspects of a problem. Our mission is to advance this way of working - we call it strategic design.
Helsinki Design Lab features three case studies that epitomize the field of strategic design and they’re currently accepting case study applications to be featured on the site and at the conference later this year.
Andy Pressman, of Rumors Studio, did some beautiful work on the visual design. And I’m really proud of our implementation of the details, including:
A big thanks to Bryan, Andy and Ben for their hard work on this.
Our latest launch over at XOXCO. Scott Rosenberg, co-founder of Salon.com and writer of two excellent books, hired us to help him build a site to work toward the goal of tracking errors and corrections in local news.
MediaBugs is a Bay Area-focused site where readers can submit errors in local reporting. The MediaBugs team will then engage the publication and journalist responsible and work towards a resolution. It was funded by the Knight News Challenge.
MediaBugs was built on our PeoplePods software. The identity was designed by Mignon Karghie and carried out through the look and feel of the site by Courtney Patubo. Thanks ladies!
So far, the Toot-o-sphere has had good things to say, and the launch was even covered by The Awl. Cynical though it was, the post made my day. (BTW, the bug they mention in that post was corrected and closed.)
